Meditation 1: Identify Beliefs

Think about your subconscious mind like a suitcase filled with dirty clothes. Until you know which wash cycle is piece of clothing needs, it cannot be properly cleaned. In order to determine which wash cycle is needed for each article of clothing, you must identify each piece of clothing.

Different BeliefsEach one of us carries around beliefs inherited from different sources; past lives, ancestral and learned behavior. Some of these beliefs serve us well, and others do not serve our highest good. Meditation 1 is designed to assist your subconscious in bringing forth the beliefs you hold that are no longer for your highest good. As these beliefs come to the surface, you may see or sense something in your meditation. It’s okay if you don’t see anything right away, there are lingering effects from each meditation. You will be feeling the energy of the meditation for 4-5 days, so also pay attention to what shows up in your dreams, or what synchronicities are being brought to you as evidence of what you have identified.

In the comments section, please write about, what you noticed during and following Meditation 1. Even if what you see or sense something you think of as trivial or unrelated, write it down. You can notice, faces, symbols, words, body sensations, colors, smells, sounds, emotions and even other evidence not listed here. If you feel you know what experience connects to your evidence, please write that as well. Sometimes, you may not be able to identify the source right away, and that is just fine too.

Be sure to share this page with friends to enhance your discussion. Sometimes it helps to have someone you know well weigh in on what you saw.

The Year I Gave Up Reading Books

For many years of my life I was a veracious reader, spending entire weekends lost in the pages of a good book. I would read fiction and non-fiction books, moving from one to the next.

One year around Christmastime, my boyfriend asked me if I could remember the details from a certain book about meditation. I could not. Then he asked me another question about a different book I had just finished, and I could not recall the details either. It was at that point, he made a suggestion to me that was extremely eye-opening. He asked, “Why don’t you try to give some time between books? So, the information can really sink in.”

Honestly, I hadn’t thought about that before. For so many years, I would move from one book right to the next, usually without much thought about why I had chosen to read the book in the first place. That was when I realized that books had become a distraction for me. What had started as a way to educate myself about spiritual topics, had now become a way for me to get so distracted in the learning process that I did not allow for time to assimilate the new knowledge into my life.

So on that New Year’s Day of 2007, I decided I was going to take a year off from reading books. I didn’t know it at the time, but there was truly nothing finer I could have done to speed up my spiritual development.

All of a sudden, I not only had more time, but also discovered that my thoughts were more focused and my intuition became clearer. I was able to listen to my guidance in a way like never before.

Did I miss books? Yes, for the first 3 months, I really missed them. However, the more I removed myself from them, the more I discovered that I had been missing out on connecting with myself and my guides. By the time the year was over, I didn’t jump right back into reading (even though I thought I would have). I had discovered something that was even better than connecting with the words and vision of another person, and that was connecting with my own.

Spirituality is Honoring Your Own Individuality

Spirituality is a journey to discover (or should I say rediscover) yourself. It is an individual journey and one that no other person can tell you how it should be accomplished. Each person will find their own truth within spirituality and what works for them. To me spirituality is the highest form of honoring our own individuality, however we express it.

So, how do I honor my individuality? I believe in the power that our past life experiences have in shaping our lives today. I believe we are all souls on a path of evolution through lifetimes of experiences. And, with each lifetime we discover more about our Soul’s essence, learning and growing along the way.

Each lifetime has its own life lessons, karmic agreements and experiences, which we will carry forward through subsequent lives. But, that is not all bad news! We also grow our knowledge and expertise through each passing lifetime. As a part of my work, I have developed a framework to teach about past life experiences. This framework is in the form of 16 past life patterns, 16 common experiences that show up for all of us. Each person typically holds onto between 3 and 5 patterns that they have more experience and expertise with than the others.

By understanding our own unique mix of these past life patterns, and also the blueprint of our current lifetime (Astrological birth chart), we can connect with our purpose, talents and emotional challenges. This helps us not only to stop repeating our negative patterns again and again, but also shows us the expertise from our previous lifetimes that we can build upon now.

Spirituality means so many things to me; it is integral to who I am and what I do. Yes, past life study is a huge part of my work, but spirituality is also: Source energy, animals, crystals, fairies, angels, Lemuria, Atlantis, ascended masters, astrology, meditation, self-empowerment, belief, affirmations, honoring oneself, unconditional love, compassion, and many more things that I could list here.

When it comes down to it, spirituality means to me: being at peace with yourself, your beliefs and how you express them to the world.
